San Diego Cell Antennas Should Not Be In Close Proximity to Homes - Updated 7/22/04
![]() |
The
City of San Diego is approving cell antennas installations on City Street
Lights in residential neighborhoods under 50 ft from single family homes.
(Cities known to be affected are Point Loma, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe and
Carmel Valley but the Policy will affect all San Diego communites) We
are working to establish a minimum 200 ft setback in local and/or City
legislation to protect homeowner property values in our communities. (Many
other cities require 200-600 ft setbacks) The new policy will steer almost all new permits to street lights near homes because doing so requires the least amount of effort and approval. The City's policy establishes a priority of using street lights over traffic lights, which means even if the cell company would use a traffic light further away from homes the City won't let them if a street light near a home is available. The City needs to change the prioritization to put traffic lights first, then street lights to mimize the impact on residentail neighborhoods. Cell companies are proposing sites one at a time leaving homeowners vulnerable. We are asking the City to require a cumulative plan that identifies all the cell companies' sites for a community. This would permit the community to assess the visual impact as a whole (avoid littering the community with cell antennas, cabinets, and other apparatus) and reduce the impact on property values for home owners as a whole. Read More The City Council will vote on new policy/regulations on July 27. The policy will not include these protections. Please attend the meeting to request these protections. Alternatively, please submit your comments so they will go in the public record at http://www.sandiego.gov/city-council/docket-comment.shtml Enter Item #344 and Date: 7/27/04 when asked for this information in the form. |
